Rail Bus #1205 - The "Ice Worm" was purchased by the Sportsman Lodge in Whittier to provide regular rail service between Portage and Whittier. In 1966 and 1967 it made hourly trips over the 12 mile branch, passing several glaciers and going through the two tunnels which totalled four and a half miles long. The venture did not work out and the Alaska Railroad acquired the little bus, storing it in the Anchorage yard. In June of 1970, the Alaska Yukon Historical Society was told that the Ice Worm had to be moved within a week. Marshalling a work party, they spent one long evening after work moving it by trailer to their old museum site near International Airport in Anchorage. Milepost 47, Parks Highway.
